Word Power

I just read the book The Right Word:  Roget and his Thesaurus by Jen Bryant and Melissa Sweet.  It has inspired me to write some lists of words (like Roget did from the time he was a little boy until the time he published his thesaurus)!

Dark                                           Light

Black                                           White

Night                                           Day

Somber                                       Brilliant

Inky                                             Ray

Shadow                                       Bright

Heavy                                          Weightless

Sooty                                           Luminous

Gloomy                                       Unclouded

Words

are

so

much

fun

to

play

with

and

there

are

so

many

ways

of

saying

the

same

thing!

Here’s to word power!

  1. This is definitely a slice to share with kids and offer it up as a choice during Journal Pages – I think I’ll do that on Friday! I love the word weightless under light! I like to way it sounds and the feeling I get when I say it – weightless. It’s a happy word! Thanks for sharing!

    1. Maybe I should try writing sentences with these words….I like what you created here – “Weightless under light.” It sounds just beautiful, doesn’t it?

  2. Ooh! Another book to add to my list. Did he really make lists of words from childhood onward? That’s amazing. And your lists are great – and the poem is quite fun. Wow! Adding this to my list of ideas. 🙂
