Snow Poetry – Revision#1

One of my favorite revision strategies is “Lift a Line.” I’m going to try it with yesterday’s poem, Snow Poetry.

Today I wake to the beautiful silence of snow. (the lifted line)

Before I even open my eyes, I know it is snowing.

Barely a sound outside.

A hush over the world.

Everything muffled by the fluffy white stuff falling gracefully from the sky.

I open my eyes.

Look out the window.

The back yard covered with a blanket, tree branches lined in white chalk.

The peaceful calm of a snowy morning.

    1. Thank you. Yes, it has its pluses and minuses, doesn’t it? More coming for us tonight! Maybe it will inspire another poem or two! Maybe I should write a negative snow poem.

  1. I love this revision strategy. Your poem is wonderful in its unfolding of what it means to awaken to a world of snow.

    1. Thanks! I’m going to revise it a few more times and see what happens. Livinglife has just given me an idea to write an “anti snow” poem. Should be fun!

  2. “muffled by the fluffy white stuff” – what a fun line to read and reread and say out loud! I’m not sure which poem I like better – they are so different. I think in this one I really like the part where you know it’s snowing although you haven’t even opened your eyes! Beautifully written! Thanks for sharing!
